A Perioperative Manifesto
When Anesthesia Needs to Be More than Anesthesia.
Upon witnessing PhyMed’s recent organizational growth and relationship expansion across several states that now includes more than 700 providers, and drawing upon my years spent in a hospital setting as a CEO, it has become clear to me the need to refocus our relationships with our partners. Hospitals and ASCs (and groups) need and expect more from their partners – the delivery of anesthesia care and staffing alone is no longer enough. For PhyMed to achieve success we must build more, be more, and drive more in continuing to deliver value across the perioperative continuum.
Let’s not remain numb to the reality: Value-added, collaborative partnerships can be a driving force behind the success of the operating room, which is the financial heartbeat of any hospital organization or surgery center. The perioperative clock begins ticking before a patient enters a hospital, clinic, or doctor's office for a surgical procedure and doesn’t really stop, until the patient is discharged to go home. There is a dependency on perioperative services to generate revenue, build a reputation, and support the overall objectives of any healthcare delivery organization.
Effectively managing an operating room comes with challenges. And when ORs are managed efficiently and strategically, it’s a win-win opportunity for all. To remain successful, hospitals, ASCs, and groups must deliver excellent care at the lowest possible cost while building volume.
PhyMed is on a mission to unleash the potential in the OR by transforming anesthesia from a cost center to profit center driving value throughout the perioperative continuum. We truly are in a position to be a quarterback for the perioperative experience by leading and supporting hospitals and providers with the tools and strategies they need to succeed.
We do this by leveraging technology, analytics, training, and clinical protocols to create operational efficiencies, drive quality, and improve margins. The goal is to deliver a high-quality surgical experience every time for patients and providers by optimizing patient flow and enhancing patient satisfaction through proactive communication before, during, and after surgery. Technology enables quality and operational efficiency, but healthcare has been slow to embrace it. For PhyMed, technology is a key variable to driving value in the surgical environment.
So what have we learned? We have never strived to be a staffing company, relationships matter, and our aim is to be a strategic partner. In addition to the safe delivery of anesthesia, our goal is to ensure that every surgical experience is delivered with compassion and achieves the best possible clinical outcome.
At PhyMed, we are perioperative partnerships—redefined.
